Security
You know, I was watching "The Lady In White" the other day and it occured to me why I find it very creepy. Sure, as a kid it was scary because of the Lady in White herself and the ghosts, but these days it's something more. The movie is set in a small, rural town. Everyone knows everyone. It reminds me of the same type of town that I grew up in. No one felt the need to lock their doors. Telling people to just drop by, even if they are not home, etc. Naive to the dangers of child molesters and murderers and robbers who may be living among them. They were certainly no wireless security systems back then and you just didn't think that you would ever need something like that. I don't know that these kinds of crimes have increased over the years or if it's more like we are more aware of them happening these days.
