Traveling

The Military life is sure different than the Civllian life. One of the advantages is the opportunity to travel. Of course you can always be stationed overseas in Guam, Japan, Germany, Hawaii,(still a state but considered overseas) but it also gives you an opportunity to live all over your own country if the United States. I'm from Maine and while i've lived in Hawaii and Guam, i've also had the opportunity to live in California. We are up for our next duty station in 2011 and who knows where it will be, hopefully in the states. It's exciting, though scary to move to a new place. Say you were going to go to Pennsylvania, you'd have to check out the housing, the schools, any jobs in Philadelphia or wherever else in PA you'd be living if your interested in working while your husband is off doing his job. I don't know if there is a base in PA but If your husband/wife does recruiting I think there is probably an office just about anywhere.

LOST

I can't believe there are so few episodes of LOST left. It's a real, real bummer. Though I just FINALLY got into the series a year and a half ago, (wanted to get into it while we lived in Hawaii but missed the first few episodes and back then I don't think they had them online viewable as an option yet, so we figured we'd wait for the box sets. Low and behold it took me almost 5 years to finally start watching) I am really going to miss it. I had the luxury of watching most of the seasons back to back since they are all available on abc.com to watch now. It's funny how the writers are finally answering some of these questions...just the way they go about it, it's almost like they are making fun of us LOL like they read the imdb.com boards and tease us.

Trips

Before we moved out here to Guam, we took a nice three week road trip from California to Texas. It was very enjoyable. We saw quite different scenery than we used to see in Maine, Northern California and Hawaii. It's been three years now since we took that trip and in a year and a half we hope to take another awesome trip. Our luggage however, is all tripped out. From all the times the Military has moved us over the years, they are falling apart. Though Guam has been an adventure, I have to say that checking out new luggage sets will be the highlight of when we get to leave here. I can picture that being one of my son's birthday presents in a year, because he has a summer birthday and we are due to leave in Oct 2011. We will get ones that are sturdy and last a long time.

Computer Desks

We recently purchased a computer desk from our local Navy Exchange Home Store. It gets the job done well enough, and now we have something to keep our IMAC on other than the table, but I know my husband would have loved to spend a bit more and opt for some real office furniture. Furniture that is quality made and not just a step or two above Kmart/Walmart brand that we purchased. The furniture we got may be discount price but it surely won't last as long as some premium office furniture.

Ugh..pictures

If there is one thing that sobers us chunky people right out of a food coma where we haven't cared in a few months, it's having our picture taken. Mirros can lie. You can look at yourself in them at different angles and think "eh, I don't look THAT bad". Even checking yourself out in the rear view mirror isn't so bad. However, the second you see yourself in a photograph or heaven forbid, on VIDEO, you get the reality of the situation. Yeah, there may be some truth to the camera adding a teeny bit of weight, but at my weight it doesn't make a huge difference. I was volunteering at my son's kindergarden class the other day and someone took my picture. When I saw it, I was sobered up real quick. Just a few weeks of not caring have really messed me up.

Owning a car

If there is one thing that we always make sure to pay, even when we are really, really struggling, it's our car insurance. That is one of those areas in life that you do not want to be lacking in. You really can't predict what is going to happen when you get up every morning and pull out of your driveway. If your not armed with proper insurance you could end up paying alot more out of pocket than the cost of insurance each month. If you don't have insurance, please check around for auto insurance quotes online. It doesn't require much time and there is always great price comparison. Sometimes the best and most price efficiant insurance is one you least expect.

King Car Tea

Out here in Guam there is this really good iced lemon tea that I like. It's called King Car brand Lemon Tea. It's about 79.4 calories per one cup. It's pretty sugar and sweet and should be tasted in moderation, but it's really good. The bottle we normaly get is a 6 serving one so it's best to pour out and drink your serving from an actual cup and not from the bottle, or your apt to get more than one serving. I AM trying to drink more water but I do enjoy some nice brisk flavor.

Pulse Oximeter

I found out something interesting that I didn't know today. What a pulse oximeter was. I had seen patients in hospitals in real life and on the movies that had these devices hooked up to their fingers. I was never quite sure what they did. Apparently the main function of the device is to measure the arterial hemoglobin in the oxyhemoglobin configuration. Basicly meaning it measures, in a non invasive way, how stable your oxygen is and whether or not you may need extra oxygen help. It's amazing what can be done by just a small device attached to your finger.

Kim Kardashian

By now we have all seen the commercials for Quick Trim on tv. Kim and Khloe Kardashian are the current spokeswomen for the product. I can't personally say whether or not the product works, but I know that both of them DO look great. Khloe has lost a nice chunk of weight and i'm sure she worked hard at it. It's always best to read reviews from consumers who have actually tried the product and not just rely on tv commercials. I like to do quite a bit of research on these products before I spend money on them.

Weight Loss Tips

When it comes to losing weight, it seems the general consensus, at least scale weight wise goes, is that in order to lose weight, it's all a matter of burning more than you take in. This would be why people on say the WeightWatcher's plan can eat what they want in moderation and still lose weight. They have the program set up so that you have an automatic calorie deficit by the number of points you are given. Stick within your points/calorie range and you should lose weight. I do think that if you want to lose body FAT, you have to make sure that your calories count. In other words, eat a mostly clean diet while enjoying a weekly treat. Cleaner foods give you more energy and don't have as many preservatives and addictives that can cause you to feel sluggish. I'm always looking online for fast weight loss tips. While it's been sad that slower is better, if you have a clean diet and lift weights and follow certain tips, bodyfat will literally melt away. It's just a matter of sticking to a strict regimen.

Night Cream

On youtube you will find a wide variety of makeup and skin care regimen videos. Not to mention reviews of the best night cream to reviews of the best lipgloss. I've never been a huge make up person. In fact, I can't even seem to apply it correctly, even at age 29, but I do enjoy watching the makeup hauls on these videos and the tutorials where they show you how to apply the makeup. Some of these people apply about five different products on their faces. It's so much work, I don't think I could ever keep up with it. I mean I don't want to be NO maitanance, but i'm for sure not HIGH maitanance.

New Moon

So I finally got to see New Moon the other day. I had wanted to see it in theatres but kept putting it off. I love the books, let me first say that. However, I have to say that I haven't really been that fascinated yet by the movies. It could just be me or the fact that i'm not 11, so Jacob having his shirt off isn't a giggle moment for me. I think watching the movie made me remember how annoyed I felt when I read that particular book because Bella couldn't seem to stand on her own two feet. She couldn't even function without a man, be it Jacob or Edward by her side. In fact, she used Jacob. And Edward leaving was just stupid. It annoyed me to no end. BUT, I still love it all.

Skin Care

Of all the things that I have to deal with (fat face, fat body, fat and wide feet, thick eye brows, thick hair, etc) I guess I should consider myself lucky that I don't currently suffer from adult acne. Just like being overweight and not being able to hide the fat behind clothes, sometimes makeup doesn't even cover the fact that you have bad skin. In fact often times it looks bad and makes your face break out worse. They do have a number of creams that really do work wonders on your complexion. It's to bad they don't make a cream that actually works to get rid of fat. Nope, the only thing that works is moving more than your eating.

Car Insurance

You have to hand it to the car insurance companies. They sure do know how to make some memorable commercials. Whether you love them and think they are funny, or hate them and think they are horribly annoying, they do what they want to do. Catch your attention and make you remember. It's important to shop around when it comes to car insurance. As is pointed out in most of these commercials, sometimes the ones that claim to be the cheapest are not really the cheapest. You should do some shopping around online. It's fast and convenient and most places have their own website that you can view and email any questions you may have.

Ramona and Beezus

This is pretty exciting. They have made a Ramona and Beezus movie! I remember reading all the Ramona books back in third grade. My teacher had a Ramona doll. One of my favorites was Ramona age 8. Here is the trailer for the movie. It looks wicked cute!
